Thank, God.

ATLANTA — 11Alive is taking action for you. We are calling the offices of Georgia House and Senate members from Metro Atlanta to find out if they are current with their taxes.

Really? 11Alive is taking action for me. I thought it was exactly the opposite.

I thought 11Alive was merely pandering over an inconsequential issue, so its reporters wouldn’t have to worry about explaining (or even understanding) complicated issues that matter, like Medicaid and education cuts in the midst of a recession. Silly me.

The AJC’s James Salzer at least offered some substance in a flipside legislators-are-suffering-through-the-recession-too. I should note that Salzer is one of the more accomplished, serious reporters at the paper. But, honestly, I don’t really care if a state legislator missed a tax payment or if his or her business is doing poorly. I care if the people who were elected to represent us are dealing effectively with the state’s problems.
