74 take AJC buyout
Seventy-four full-time newsroom staff members took the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s latest downsizing buyout offer.
Atlanta Unfiltered posted Editor Julia Wallace’s internal memo with the full list. Among the departing are such reporting stalwarts as Jim Auchmutey, Moni Basu, Drew Jubera and Andy Miller, as well as music critic Sonia Murray, art critic Catherine Fox, and three fantastic photographers: Rich Addicks, Louie Favorite and Joey Ivansco. Fresh Loaf’s Scott Henry has a few more details .
Unfiltered’s Jim Walls says the AJC newsroom had 475 staff members two years ago (I thought Julia Wallace told me last year that the 2007 high point was around 495, but close enough). With this round of buyouts and layoffs, the paper plans to get down to 235 newsroom employees.
