Pecanne Log: Plaza Drugs through the ages
Great post on Pecanne Log Monday on the history of Plaza Drugs.
One of the several video links was the classic “never closed/fountain delights” ad that ran on local stations like Channel 17 well after it was out of date.

Ken. Thank you for posting this. It helped relieve the stress of the day. As someone who sometimes feels like I’ve been around since Hardy Ivy (newcomers, you’ll have to look him up), I must have seen this commercial 5,000 times. I supposed it’s more convenient to have a CVS on every corner, but then it’s also hard to tell one corner from another. We lost a unique bit of Atlanta when Plaza Drugs closed.
I stole that video from the very good but never updated Downhome Traces blog.

never updated? ok, maybe sparsely updated, but it’s video so it takes some time. and i’ve got tiny crazy kids. christa, i’m a fan of pecanne and we’ve got a mutual friend in drew. i’d be happy to do some video for your blog at some point if you have any ideas. i want to do a piece on the black rabbi, the go-to DJ for Atlanta kids’ bday parties and bar mitzvahs in the 80s. later, steve
